September is Suicide Prevention Month

September 28, 2021

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness on this very difficult topic.  Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. Suicidal thoughts may be the result of untreated mental health conditions.  Suicidal thoughts should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.

On September 21, RCO Law sponsored a Suicide Prevention in Construction Workshop, along with the Associated General Contractors of Northwest Ohio; Mechanical Contractors Association of Northwest Ohio; National Electrical Contractors Association; and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 8.

The statistics in the construction industry are shocking. Five times more construction workers will die by suicide than on a job site. According to OSHA, 1,061 workers died in 2019 due to work-related injuries. According to the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP), there are approximately 5,5000 suicides among construction workers per year.
